    RGS-IBG Book Series

The RGS-IBG Book Series is a publishing partnership between the Royal Geographical Society  (with the Institute of British Geographers) and LSE Press.

The Series publishes work of the highest international standing. Its emphasis is on distinctive new developments in human and physical geography, although it is also open to contributions from cognate disciplines whose interests overlap with those of geographers. The Series places strong emphasis on theoretically informed and empirically strong texts. Reflecting the vibrant and diverse theoretical and empirical agendas that characterise the contemporary discipline, contributions are expected to inform, challenge and stimulate the reader. Overall, the RGS-IBG Book Series seeks to promote scholarly publications that leave an intellectual mark and change the way readers think about particular issues, methods or theories.

The Series moved to LSE Press in 2024, and now publishes fully open access for all forthcoming books.

All proposals and manuscripts are subject to external peer review, in addition to input from the editors and an experienced editorial board.

Margath Walker is Professor of Geography in the Department of Geographic and Environmental Sciences and School of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Louisville. She is a social and political geographer whose research focuses on borders, technology, and critical social theory. Her book, Spatializing Marcuse: Critical Theory for Contemporary Times (Bristol University Press), is the first to develop a geographic perspective in relation to the social philosopher, Herbert Marcuse. She has published widely on borders and belonging in the context of Latin America, the spatial dimensions of emerging technologies and how social theory can explain current political dynamics. Her current funded project investigates the geographies of border and immigration enforcement under Operation Lone Star in Texas. She has been consulted as an expert witness and by media outlets.

She is co-author of Decolonising Geography? Disciplinary Histories and the end of the British empire in Africa, 1948-1998 (RGS-IBG Book Series), co-editor of Cultures of Decolonisation (with Claire Wintle, MUP) and Modern Futures (with Hannah Neate, Uniform Books). Publishing open access

LSE Press and the Society are committed to creating a publishing programme that increases equity and diversity in scholarly publishing. Publishing all forthcoming books open access will enhance the geographical reach of the Series and provide access to those previously unable to afford academic monographs, or without institutional access to library resources.

We do not expect authors to cover charges personally and we will work with authors to help them access funding. The Society and LSE Press have committed to jointly providing funding for additional titles where necessary.

Authors will be asked to complete a cover sheet after submitting their proposal detailing their funding status. All proposal reviews will be undertaken anonymously, and funding status will have no bearing on the academic review of the proposals.
